Now let’s talk about environment. People say that our planet is in danger. Do you share this opinion?
Of course yes, I am absolutely agree with this opinion. Some hundreds of years ago people lived in harmony with nature, because industry was not much developed. Today, however, the contradictions between man and nature are dramatic. The twenty first century is a century of the scientific and technological progress.  The achievements of the mankind in mechanization, in chemical industry, in the creation of atomic power stations and ships are amazing. But at the same time, this progress gave birth to a very serious problem – the problem of environment.  Our environment is getting worse and worse every day. The world is too polluted and we're the ones doing it. But sometimes we even don’t think about it. People built new plants and factories, cut forests, dry lakes and kill animals everywhere. All of that  has a strong impact on our planet. Of course we can not just pick up and remove all the factors of pollution. It's impossible. But we can try to reduce the level of contamination. Our scientists are working on this problem and we hope that they will find the way of living without polluting our planet in the nearest future.
Some people don't care about the environment because they think that by the time the world ends they will be have been dead. I think stopping the pollution would be the best future but it will cost lots and lots of money but in the long run it will be worth it. The problem is when and where to start?

Now let’s talk about environment. People say that our planet is in danger. Do you share this opinion?
Yes, of course. I want to tell you about our Earth. I want to say We all know what people ruins and want they can lose.
Many people want to save the Earth, but they don`t know how to do it. They don`t know how to protect wild animals, plants, and how to keep water clean and air fresh. Water is very important in the life of people for our life. There is a lot of water on our planet. It is in rivers, oceans, lakes and seas.
At the same time there is a little water on the planet. In many lakes and rivers the water is very dirty. Sometimes people can`t swim in seas, rivers and lakes because water is dirty. In many places water is not able to drink can't be drunk and it is dangerous to use it when you cook. Even fish die in such water.
Some people`s activities do a lot of harm to the forests. People cut down trees to build farms, homes and roads. Many animals and plants lose their homes. Many of them die. This is bad for the air of the Earth too. Modern plants and factories send a lot of smoke in the atmosphere. This is very bad, because nowadays it`s difficult to breathe in big cities.
So, the problem now is to protect life on the Earth, and to save our planet for the future. I believe that we must think about our planet and we mustn`t cut down trees, dump to the rivers. Then in the future our world will be beautiful.

Of course I share this opinion. Becouse today, our planet is in serious danger. Acid rains, global warming, air and water pollution, overpopulation are the problems that threaten human life on Earth. Who is to blame for the disaster? The answer is simple: all of us. Our forests are disappearing because they are cut down or burnt. If this trend continues, one day we won't have enough oxygen to breathe.
Every ten minutes one kind of animals, plants or insects dies out for ever. If nothing is done about it, one million species that are alive today may soon become extinct. Fortunately, it's not too late to solve these problems. We have the time, the money and even the technology to make our planet better, cleaner and safer. We can plant trees and create parks for endangered species. We can recycle litter. We can support green parties and put pressure on those in power.
Together we can save the planet and all of us with it.

Of course, yes. Among the most important problems are the ozone layer depletion, acid rains, global warming, disappearance of forests,  destruction of soil in some areas, threat to some flora and fauna representatives and many others.
One of the most important pollution problems is the oceans. Many ships sail in the ocean water fishing, carrying people,  or oil. If a ship loses some oil in the water,  the water becomes dirty. Many sea birds die because of the polluted water. Many fish are dying in the sea, others are getting contaminated. Fishermen catch contaminated fish which may be sold in markets, and people may get sick from  after eating them. Lakes and rivers are becoming polluted, too. Some beaches are dangerous for swimming.
Another important problem is air pollution. Cars and factories pollute the air we use. Their car exhaust fumes also destroy the ozone layer which protects the Earth from the dangerous light of the Sun. Aerosols create large holes in the ozone layer round the Earth.
One more problem is that our forests are dying from acid rains. Deforestation, especially destruction of tropical forests, affects the balance of nature in many ways. It kills animals and changes the climate.
The nuclear accident at Chernobyl, which took place on April 26, 1986., has seriously aggravated the ecological situation in Belarus. That catastrophe can be considered as the largest disaster of the 20th century. As the result of that accident 18% of territories of our republic were contaminated by radioactive elements. The agriculture of our country suffered great losses. More than 20% of the population has also suffered. A death rate among children has increased considerably.
People should try to save the Earth immediately

Today our planet is in serious danger. Acid rains, global warming, air and water pollution, and overpopulation are the problems that threaten human lives on the Earth.
In order to understand how air pollution affects our body, we must understand exactly what this pollution is. Billions of tons of coal and oil are consumed around the world every year. Factories emit tons of harmful chemicals. These emissions have disastrous consequences for our planet. They are the main reason for the greenhouse effect and acid rains.
Our forests are disappearing because they are cut down or burnt. If this trend continues, one day we won't have enough oxygen to breathe, we won't see a beautiful green forest at all.Every ten minutes one kind of animals, plants or insects dies out forever. If nothing is done about it, one million species that are alive today may soon become extinct.
Fortunately, it's not too late to solve these problems. We have the time, the money and even the technology to make our planet a better, cleaner and safer place.

People say that our planet is in danger. Do you share this opinion?
Ecological problems are so acute nowadays. On the one hand, our life has become much more comfortable due to the progress of science and technology, but on the other hand, our environment is being more and more polluted with every passing day. There are different types of pollution: air pollution, water pollution, nuclear pollution, even noise pollution. Factories, plants and cars pollute the air in big cities. Rivers that used to be so beautiful and full of fish are poisoned by industrial waste. It is not always pleasant to bathe in the sea because the water is not blue but brown with rubbish floating in it. Besides, millions of tons of oil are released into the seas every year and a lot of seabirds and animals die because of it. It is dangerous for human beings too.

Nuclear power stations are hazardous too. They can cause nuclear pollution as in the case of Chernobyl or Fucusima. Our republic and our Mogilev region in particular have greatly suffered from the after-effects of the Chernobyl disaster.

The ozone holes present a serious problem as well. The ozone layer that protects the Earth from the dangerous ultraviolet rays of the sun is constantly destroyed. The dangerous rays penetrate through the atmosphere and cause skin cancer and other diseases.
The problem of deforestation is also very acute. Deforestation destroys the environmental balance and reduces biodiversity. More and more species of animals and plants are becoming extinct. It also has a big impact on the world climate because the rain forests are natural recyclers, protectors and providers for our planet.

The most dramatic of the environmental issues is, probably, climate change. It is caused by greenhouse effect which is the result of a massive release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. When we breathe out and when things are burnt, carbon dioxide enters the atmosphere. Until recently it was absorbed by trees and plants, which converted it back into oxygen. But now factories, power stations and cars are burning more and more coal, oil and natural gas. And the destruction of forests means that there are fewer trees to convert carbon dioxide into oxygen. It acts like the glass in a greenhouse, allowing sunshine and heat to pass in but not out again. As a result we have hotter and drier summers, warmer and wetter winters, more storms and rainfalls, extreme weather conditions and raising sea-levels.

Now let’s talk about environment. People say that our planet is in danger. Do you share this opinion?
Of course, yes. People have lived on our planet for many years. They lived and live on different continents, in different countries. People depend on their planet, on the sun, on animals and plants around them. People must take care of Earth. Our ecology becomes worse and worse with every new day. Many species of animals and birds are disappearing nowadays. People destruct wildlife, cut down trees to make furniture.Of course, the greatest problem is pollution. The main reason of pollution is rubbish. Most of our rubbish goes to big holes in the ground, called ‘dumps’. But dumps are very dangerous for our life ‘cause they are full of rats, which can carry infections away from dumps. Another way to get rid of rubbish is to burn it. But the fires make poisons, which go into the air and pollute it. But Nevertheless pollution isn’t the only actual problem. Every day a big number of animals dissapeares. People kill animals for different aims: e.g. people hunt whales for their meat and oil; elephants for their tusks, crocodiles for their leather and so on. And also animals are used for medical experiments. The most wide – speared from such animals are monkeys. Modern life is bad for animals, birds, fish. The air isn’t fresh and the water isn’t pure. They don’t have good mealfood  and facilities for the life. You can find their names in the Red Book.
Of course, people can’t stay remain indifferent to these problems. We must save wild animals. And we must find the right way to save land, people and animals. We must take care of nature, because we are a part of it.

Now let’s talk about environment. People say that our planet is in danger. Do you share this opinion?
Of course yes, I am absolutely agree with this opinion.
Humans have been living on this planet for two million years and during the last two hundred years humans have made a mess of on the planet: cut trees, killed animals, polluted air, water and soil, etc. That is why now we have a lot of ecological problems like the greenhouse effect, extinct and endangered animals and plants, water, air and soil pollution, holes in the ozone layer, problems of burying different kinds of waste and garbage, acid rains and others so on.
The Earth has been are getting hotter because people are producing too many greenhouse gases. If the Earth's temperature gets hotter it can change the weather on the planet. People will not be able to grow crops in the usual places so they'll face the threat of starvation.
When people move to new lands, the plants and the animals that grow and live there can become endangered which means that they begin to disappear. Some of them become extinct which means that they all will die out. We enjoy pictures and stories about the dinosaurs who lived on the Earth many millions of years ago. They are all extinct now. That could happen to many other animals.

Extinct Animals

From the Quagga --half zebra, half horse-- to the Irish Deer --the largest deer that ever lived--, an impressive list with pictures of amazing animals we will never see.
1
Tyrannosaurus Rex (extinct 65 million years ago)
Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the largest land carnivores of all time, measuring up to 43.3 feet long, and 16.6 ft tall, with an estimated mass that goes up to 7 tons.
Fossils of T. rex have been found in North American rock formations dating to the last three million years of the Cretaceous Period at the end of the Maastrichtian stage, approximately 68.5 to 65.5 million years ago; it was among the last dinosaurs to exist prior to the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event. More than 30 specimens of T. rex have been identified, some of which are nearly complete skeletons. Some researchers have discovered soft tissue as well. The abundance of fossil material has allowed significant research into many aspects of its biology, including life history and biomechanics.

2
Quagga: half zebra, half horse (extinct since 1883)

One of Africa's most famous extinct animals, the quagga was a subspecies of the plains zebra, which was once found in great numbers in South Africa's Cape Province and the southern part of the Orange Free State. It was distinguished from other zebras by having the usual vivid marks on the front part of the body only. The quagga was originally classified as an individual species, Equus quagga, in 1788. Over the next fifty years or so, many other zebras were described by naturalists and explorers. Because of the great variation in coat patterns (no two zebras are alike), taxonomists were left with a great number of described "species", and no easy way to tell which of these were true species, which were subspecies, and which were simply natural variants. Long before this confusion was sorted out, the quagga had been hunted to extinction for meat, hides, and to preserve feed for domesticated stock. The last wild quagga was probably shot in the late 1870s, and the last specimen in captivity died on August 12, 1883 at the Artis Magistra zoo in Amsterdam.

3
Thylacine: the Tasmanian Tiger (extinct since 1936)
The Thylacine was the largest known carnivorous marsupial of modern times. Native to Australia and New Guinea, it is thought to have become extinct in the 20th century. It is commonly known as the Tasmanian Tiger (due to its striped back), and also known as the Tasmanian Wolf, and colloquially the Tassie (or Tazzy) Tiger or simply the Tiger. It was the last extant member of its genus, Thylacinus.
The Thylacine became extinct on the Australian mainland thousands of years before European settlement of the continent, but survived on the island of Tasmania along with a number of other endemic species such as the Tasmanian Devil. Intensive hunting encouraged by bounties is generally blamed for its extinction, but other contributory factors may have been disease, the introduction of dogs, and human encroachment into its habitat. Despite being officially classified as extinct, sightings are still reported.

4
Steller's Sea Cow: the defenseless beast (extinct since 1768)

Formerly found near the Asiatic coast of the Bering Sea, it was discovered in in 1741 by the naturalist Georg Steller, who was traveling with the explorer Vitus Bering. The sea cow grew up to 7.9 meters (25.9 ft) long and weighed up to three tons, much larger than the manatee or dugong. It looked somewhat like a large seal, but had two stout forelimbs and a whale-like tail. According to Steller, "The animal never comes out on shore, but always lives in the water. Its skin is black and thick, like the bark of an old oak..., its head in proportion to the body is small..., it has no teeth, but only two flat white bones—one above, the other below". It was completely tame, according to Steller. Fossils indicate that Steller's Sea Cow was formerly widespread along the North Pacific coast, reaching south to Japan and California. Given the rapidity with which its last population was eliminated, it is likely that the arrival of humans in the area was the cause of its extinction elsewhere as well. There are still sporadic reports of sea cow-like animals from the Bering area and Greenland, so it has been suggested that small populations of the animal may have survived to the present day. This remains so far unproven.

5
Irish Deer: the largest deer that ever lived (extinct about 7,700 years ago)

The Irish Elk or Giant Deer, was the largest deer that ever lived. It lived in Eurasia, from Ireland to east of Lake Baikal, during the Late Pleistocene and early Holocene. The latest known remains of the species have been carbon dated to about 5,700 BC, or about 7,700 years ago. The Giant Deer is famous for its formidable size (about 2.1 meters or 7 feet tall at the shoulders), and in particular for having the largest antlers of any known cervid (a maximum of 3.65 meters/12 feet from tip to tip and weighing up to 90 pounds).
Discussion of the cause of their extinction has still focused on the antlers (rather than on their overall body size), which may be due more to their impact on the observer than any actual property. Some have suggested hunting by man was a contributing factor in the demise of the Irish Elk as it was with many prehistoric megafauna, even assuming that the large antler size restricted the movement of males through forested regions or that it was by some other means a "maladaptation". But evidence for overhunting is equivocal, and as a continental species, it would have co-evolved with humans throughout its existence and presumably have adapted to their presence.

6
Caspian Tiger: the third largest (extinct since 1970)

The Caspian tiger or Persian tiger was the westernmost subspecies of tiger, found in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Caucasus, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan until it apparently became extinct in the 1970s. Of all the tigers known to the world, the Caspian tiger was the third largest.
The body of this subspecies was quite stocky and elongated with strong legs, big wide paws and unusually large claws. The ears were short and small, and gave the appearance of being without hair on the tips. Around the cheeks the Caspian tiger was generously furred and the rest of its fur was long and thick. The colouration resembled that of the Bengal tiger. Male Caspian tigers were very large and weighed 169-240 kg. Females were not as large, weighing 85-135 kg. There are still occasional claims of the Caspian tiger being sighted.

7
Aurochs: a very large type of cattle (extinct since 1627)

One of Europe's most famous extinct animals, the aurochs or urus (Bos primigenius) were a very large type of cattle. Aurochs evolved in India some two million years ago, migrated into the Middle East and further into Asia, and reached Europe about 250,000 years ago.
By the 13th century A.D., the aurochs' range was restricted to Poland, Lithuania, Moldavia, Transylvania and East Prussia. The right to hunt large animals on any land was restricted to nobles and gradually to the royal household. As the population of aurochs declined, hunting ceased but the royal court still required gamekeepers to provide open fields for the aurochs to graze in. The gamekeepers were exempted from local taxes in exchange for their service and a decree made poaching an aurochs punishable by death. In 1564, the gamekeepers knew of only 38 animals, according to the royal survey. The last recorded live aurochs, a female, died in 1627 in the Jaktorów Forest, Poland. The skull was later taken by the Swedish Army and is now the property of Livrustkammaren in Stockholm.
In the 1920s two German zookeepers, the brothers Heinz and Lutz Heck, attempted to breed the aurochs back into existence (see breeding back) from the domestic cattle that were their descendants. Their plan was based on the conception that a species is not extinct as long as all its genes are still present in a living population. The result is the breed called Heck Cattle, 'Recreated Aurochs', or 'Heck Aurochs', which bears an incomplete resemblance to what is known about the physiology of the wild aurochs

8
Great Auk: largest of all auks (extinct since 1844)
The Great Auk was the only species in the genus Pinguinus, flightless giant auks from the Atlantic, to survive until recent times, but is extinct today. It was also known as garefowl, or penguin.
Standing about 75 centimetres or 30-34 inches high and weighing around 5 kg, the flightless Great Auk was the largest of the auks. It had white and glossy black feathers. In the past, the Great Auk was found in great numbers on islands off eastern Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Ireland and Great Britain, but it was eventually hunted to extinction. Remains found in Floridan middens suggest that at least occasionally, birds ventured that far south in winter as recently as in the 14th century.

9
Cave Lion: one of the largest lions ever (extinct 2,000 years ago)

The cave lion, also known as the European or Eurasian cave lion, is an extinct subspecies of lion known from fossils and a wide variety of prehistoric art. This subspecies was one of the largest lions. An adult male, which was found in 1985 near Siegsdorf (Germany), had a shoulder height of around 1.2 m and a length of 2.1 m without a tail, which is about the same size as a very big modern lion. This male was even exceeded by other specimens of this subspecies. Therefore this cat may have been around 5-10% bigger than modern lions. It apparently went extinct about 10,000 years ago, during the Würm glaciation, though there are some indications it may have existed as recently as 2,000 years ago, in the Balkans.

10
Dodo: the archetype of extinct species (extinct since late 17th century)]
The Dodo (Raphus cucullatus) was a flightless bird that lived on the island of Mauritius. Related to pigeons and doves, it stood about a meter tall (three feet), lived on fruit and nested on the ground. The dodo has been extinct since the mid-to-late 17th century. It is commonly used as the archetype of an extinct species because its extinction occurred during recorded human history, and was directly attributable to human activity. The adjective phrase "as dead as a dodo" means undoubtedly and unquestionably dead. The verb phrase "to go the way of the dodo" means to become extinct or obsolete, to fall out of common usage or practice, or to become a thing of the past.

A. It may be a global issue, but when scientists across the world are asked what the effects of climate change will look like, they quickly point to our country. Of all the wealthy countries, we’re probably in greatest danger.
Due to past carbon emissions the temperatures have risen, but what we do between now and 2050 is crucial for the climate change later this century and beyond. While government assessments predict over 250,000 homes may be at risk from rising sea levels, Greenpeace says climate change will affect us beyond our front doors. Despite knowing the problems faced by one of our best-loved tourist attractions, we’re still not doing enough to protect the Great Barrier Reef. Though chemicals are damaging the reef, climate change and global warming are the greatest dangers to it. A temperature rise between 2 and 3 degrees Celsius would result in 97% of the Great Barrier Reef being destroyed. Reducing greenhouse gases emissions must be of high priority, even if the full consequences of this are not yet understood.
We’re the biggest coal exporter in the world. We might like to think that our own global carbon emissions are small (2% of the global emissions), but they’re much, much greater than that due to our coal exports to the countries of our region like Japan, South Korea, China and even to the Netherlands. If we had developed alternative, renewable energy sources, we’d have fewer problems now. We should be replacing fossil fuels with renewable power. We can become world leaders in solar, wind, marine and geothermal energies.
B. With so many land-based species endangered, ‘the extinction crisis’ is agreed upon as a serious environmental challenge. We have already seen a fairly disturbing loss of our biodiversity. A number of introduced species have been added to the country’s native flora and fauna. The biodiversity of this large Pacific archipelago is one of the most unusual on Earth. The arrival of humans has presented a challenge for the native species, causing extinction of several. Over 50% of the local bird species are extinct, along with a species of bat and several frogs and a freshwater fish. This place is second only to Hawaii in terms of proportions of species lost. The animals are also in danger because of deforestation and – as a result – destruction of animal habitats.
C. In 2010 there was an oil spill which is considered the worst in the country’s history. It is estimated that over 205 million gallons (gallon = 3,79 l) of oil were released into the Gulf. If the spill had been stopped earlier, the damage wouldn’t have been so great. Many species could be lost as a result. The beaches of Florida were contaminated. The harmful chemicals caused health problems in people – especially those with heart and lung problems. The real impact on the seafood industry will have long-term consequences. BP (British Petroleum) has been suffering long-term damage as they have been known as the oil company with the most environmentally friendly image. D. It is estimated that more than 1 million tonnes of textiles only are thrown away every year in this country alone. The country consumes natural resources as a terrible rate and contributes unnecessarily to climate change. Each year the population generates approximately 280 million tonnes of waste, which causes environmental damage and costs businesses and consumers a lot of money. The government and the people are doing a lot to reduce the waste some of which is reused or recycled. According to RecycleNow, the country’s recycling policy saves more than 18 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year – equivalent to taking 5 million cars off the road! If more waste was reduced, greenhouse emissions from landfills (places where rubbish is buried) could be reduced too. Moreover, landfills are a danger to local ground water supplies. Every time it rains, water drains through the rubbish, and picks up chemicals and hazardous materials. The water collects at the bottom of the landfill, often in large amounts and can become very toxic.
E. Polar bears may only be around for another 100 years because global warming is destroying their habitat. As the Earth gets hotter, sea ice melts, and this sea ice is a huge part of the polar bears' lives. They use it as a platform to stand on when they catch seals to eat, and also walk on sea ice to get to their homes - dens. Already some polar bears, in places like Hudson Bay, are beginning to struggle because of the effects of global warming.
The sea ice is melting at a speed of 9% a year, and when it's all gone the polar bears will have to find new ways of living before they become extinct. Other bears have learnt to change their habits, but polar bears need the fat from seals to get through the winter. Arctic animals like polar bears could be completely killed off because they are also eating poisonous chemicals made by humans. Scientists have found dangerous chemicals we make have reached the food chain of animals in the Arctic circle. Poisons from plastics and electrical goods can take years to break down and disappear. But they are carried along in water for hundreds of kilometres. Eventually they get into food and water eaten by smaller animals and fish. Inuit Eskimo communities are eating the food too, which could seriously damage them. Most countries have now banned the use of these chemicals in their plastics. But some - like Russia and the US - still use some dangerous chemicals.
F. On 26 April 1986 one of four reactors exploded after an experiment at the nuclear power plant northwest of the Ukrainian city of Chernobyl. As a result, a fire burnt for nine days and at least 100 times more radiation than the atom bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima was released into the air. 25 years later, we still don’t know the real effects of the disaster. From 2006 to 2009 a group of scientists from different countries counted and examined wildlife including insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. The scientists say radioactive contamination in the Chernobyl exclusion zone has a serious impact on biodiversity in Ukraine and the neighbouring Belarus. According to their research, the number of mammals has decreased. Scientists in Ukraine criticized these conclusions. They say that because of the low level of human influence the biodiversity has increased. Many scientists recommend that the governments should turn this place into a wildlife haven – a natural laboratory where they can study the long-term consequences of this kind of accident. One of the scientists said, ”If people were more careful in general, the accident would never have happened. Let’s try and be more careful at least now and not jump to conclusions.”

2)What do you think people should do to protect the environment
I believe that environment disasters can be avoided if people broaden ecological education and every person understands that the beauty of nature is extremely fragile and people must obey the unwritten laws of nature.
-Everyone should become an ecologically conscious person.
-We should broaden the system of ecological education
-We should be economical with natural recourses (water, gas, oil)
-We should buy and use only ecologically safe products (never use sprays)
- It is advisable to take part in the activities of different ecological organization sand volunteer work: planting trees, picketing …)
-New purifying systems should be fit
- We should be ecologically responsible people: stop littering to prevent air, land and water from being polluted
- We should never do harm to wildlife: stop hunting and killing wild animals
  - too much for you
3) What would you like to ask your British friend about measures that are taken to protect the environment in Britain?
1.Are there any environmental organizations in Britain?
2.Does your school take part in any programs to protect the environment?
3.What measures are taken by your local authority to protect the environment?
4)A friend of yours wants to develop a programme to protect the city where he lives. Give him a piece of advice.
First of all I would recommend him to consult ecologists about the types of local problems. Then it would be easy to plan some activities. Sometimes financial support is necessary. That’s why looking for some sponsors may also be necessary. But the most important thing is a great wish of people who take part in such programs.
5) Green school of the year content is held in the country and you want your school to enter it. Give ideas for some “green events”.
There are a lot of things we can do to help make our school a little greener.
I propose the idea of effective tree planting, days without cars and building special bicycle traces.

2.What do you think people should do to protect the environment?
There are many things people can do at home to help nature. They could waste less water by fixing leaky pipes, turning off the taps while brushing their teeth, taking showers instead of baths. People should remember that paper is not garbage and it can be recycled. By recycling of one ton newspapers we save 17 trees. People should buy in bulk so that to eliminate the trash from extra-packing, they should bike more and use public transport.
I strongly believe that we must consume less, recycle more, conserve wildlife and nature.
3.What would you like to ask your British friend about measures that are taken to protect the environment in Britain?
1.What environmental problems do you suffer from?
2.Are there any organizations to protect the environment?
3.Does your government take any measures against pollution?
4.What do you do to help nature?
4.A friend of yours wants to develop a programme to protect the city where he lives. Give him a piece of advice.
At first you should learn the ecological situation in your city. Study the most dangerous problems in details. You can gather information using photos, diagrams and interviewing people. I advise you to outline a plan of actions, analyze pros and cons of your programme. Speak about your personal contribution to the solution of the problem.
5.“Green School of the Year” contest is held the country and you want your school to enter it. Give ideas for some “green events”.
There are lots of things we can do to help make our school a little greener.
1.Try having a tree planting day for one day a month or so
2. Encourage reducing! Ask that a note be placed in the staff room around the photo copy machine to encourage printing on both sides of the page
3.Have a clean-up day once a month of the street.

2.What do you think people should do to protect the environment?
There are a number of ways in which how we can protect the environment.  Some of the best ways to do it are captured in the slogan “reduce, reuse, recycle.”
-We can reduce the amount of resources that we use on a daily basis.
-We can reuse things instead of throwing them away.
-We can recycle things instead of putting them in landfills.
The best way for people to help the environment is to focus their attention on making small, everyday things.  For example, you can make sure that you turn off the light when you leave a room, and you recycle as often as possible.
You can also make changes in your school, workplace, and family.  If your school does not have a paper recycling program, that is a great way to start.  It can be a fundraiser too.
The most important thing you can do is to make sure that you waste less.  Try not to buy things made to be thrown away.
Of course, one person is unable to save the planet. But if all people do it together, the result will be excellent.
3. What would you like to ask your British friend about measures that are taken to protect the environment in Britain?
What do you do to protect nature?
What ecological problems are there in Britain?
What does your government do to protect the environment in Britain?
Do you have any environmental organizations in Britain?
4. A friend of yours wants to develop a programme to protect the city where he lives. Give him a piece of advice.
First of all he should find out what environmental problems exist in the city. After that he can organize set up an organization which will propose ideas about how to save the planet and which will follow these ideas.  Maybe they will need money to realize their ideas . In this case they can contact with or join  any well-known organizations which fight with pollutions. I'm sure if your friend has a desire, he will succeed.
5.  ,,Green school of the year,, content is held in the country and you want your school to enter it. Give ideas for some “green events”.
I will propose the idea of planting more trees near our school. I will offer to spend a day without cars. It will be great if our school collect waste paper for recycling. I am sure that students of my school will support my ideas  and will offer some more.

2.What do you think people should do to protect the environment?
There are many things which people can do to protect the environment. People should stop wasting paper to save trees and limit unnecessary car journeys to prevent air pollution. People shouldn’t use gas and water carelessly. They should respect and appreciate the enveronment and they should understand that there is nothing infinite. Any resource come to the end.
I strongly believe that we must consume less, recycle more, conserve wildlife and nature.
3.What would you like to ask your British friend about measures that are taken to protect the environment in Britain?
1) How much money have has been given to protect the environment in Britain?

4.A friend of yours wants to develop a programme to protect the city where he lives. Give him a piece of advice.
You should learn more information about environment issues in your city. You can gather information using photos, diagrams and interviewing people. You can attract people to participate in the programme. Find a sponsor who can help your programme with money, cause it's not easy to solve environment problems without money. I hope this advice can help you.
5.“Green School of the Year” contest is held the country and you want your school to enter it. Give ideas for some “green events”.
There are lots of things we can do to help make our school a little greener:
1) You can make organize a tree planting day once a month
2) You can collect waste paper for recycling once a month or week
3) And of course you can organize a day without cars

2.What do you think people should do to protect the environment?
The environment is in danger. We should use resources economically and start seeking new ones, preferably renewable. We can’t rely on oil any more. Deposits of it are limited and they come to an end in 100 years. In addition to that we should raise people’s awareness of the fact that everyone can contribute to not letting the situation become worse. We, ordinary people, can change the situation if we try to do so.
3.What would you like to ask your British friend about measures that are taken to protect the environment in Britain?
1)What do you do to protect nature?
2)Have you ever planted a tree?
3)Do your mass media share knowledge on nature protection?
4)Are there any civil societies in Britain that aim at nature protection?
4.A friend of yours wants to develop a programme to protect the city where he lives. Give him a piece of advice.
He should carry out a research on the use of private cars and their bad influence on the atmosphere and then, with the results, he should draw people’s attention to the problem via the Net, telling abot it at school and so on.
5.“Green School of the Year” contest is held the country and you want your school to enter it. Give ideas for some “green events”.
Green schools teach children to be environmentally friendly.I think we should start a recycling program. We can recycle all our paper, plastic, metal. Also we can clean up and plant new trees. Moreover, it would be a good idea to shoot a 2-minute video about animals in danger and people’s help to them.

1.Now let’s talk about environment. People say that our planet is in danger. Do you share this opinion?
Yes, of course I share this opinion. Cause of many factors, such as acid rains, global warming, water pollution and others our Planet is in danger. But if you want to find someone who is guilty of for  it, you should look at yourself. We have to blame every person in on this issue. For example, our forests are disappearing because they are cut down by men. In the future we won't have enough oxygen to breathe.
Many factories and plants have a bad influence on our Planet, cause of bad smoke, that these factories produce. And of course, many plants and animals become extinct cause of people's activity.
2.What do you think people should do to protect the environment?
The environment is in danger. As a fact, only people can stop it. Everyone can make simple things contributing to the protection of nature. Reuse things instead of throwing them away, recycle things instead of putting them in landfills and other common rules will help our Planet to become better.
3.What would you like to ask your British friend about measures that are taken to protect the environment in Britain?
1. What do you do to protect nature?
2. How big are your landfills?
3. Are there any societies in Britain that which aim at the protection of the environment?
4. What does your government do to protect the environment?
4.A friend of yours wants to develop a programme to protect the city where he lives. Give him a piece of advice.
First, you should find out what problem is exicts in your city, what are the reasons of it and what things can help people to get rid of the problem. After this, you should get acquanted a person who will help you with money. It will be very hard to develop your programme without cash.
5.“Green School of the Year” contest is held the country and you want your school to enter it. Give ideas for some “green events”.
I have some good ideas for this event. For example we can plant some trees around school. This move action will help to produce more oxygen. Also, we can start the programme "Without smoking", in which all students must agree to avoid smoking.

2. What do you think people should do to protect the environment?
I believe that environment disasters can be avoided if people broaden their ecological education. We should be ecologically responsible people: stop littering to prevent air, land and water from being polluted. We should never do harm to wildlife: stop hunting and killing endangered wild animals. Natural resources should be used economically because their stocks are not unlimited. Reducing energy use greenhouse warming can also be solved. Governments must be prepared to take measures against pollution. New purifying systems should be fit.
3. What would you like to ask your British friend about measures that are taken to protect the environment in Britain?
What actions does your government do to stop global warming?
Are there any environmental organizations in Britain?
How to stop deforestation without any harm to national economy?
Does your school take part in any programmes to protect the environment?
What measures are taken by your local authority to protect the environment?
4. A friend of yours wants to develop a programme to protect the city where he lives. Give him a piece of advice.
First of all I would recommend him to consult ecologists about the types of local problems. Then it would be easy to plan some activities. Sometimes financial support is necessary. That’s why looking for some sponsors may also be necessary. But the most important thing is great wish of people who take part in such programmes.
5.“Green School of the Year” contest is held the country and you want your school to enter it. Give ideas for some “green events”.
What about organizing a concert and collecting money to help to save some endangered animals or national parks. We could plant trees near our school. Why not get together and clean the forest near our town from litter.I suggest that we should shoot a video clip about endangered species in our region and show it on local TV.

Too great. Cheated? 9

1)Now let’s talk about customs and traditions. What can you tell me about your favourite holiday in Britain?
In Britain customs and traditions play a more important part in the life of people than in other countries.
My favourite holiday is Halloween. Halloween is a day on which many children dress up in costumes and go from door to door where they knock on the door or ring the doorbell, and yell. The idea being that the owners of the house give the children a treat sweet or money or the children will play a trick on them.
Some ceremonies are traditional, such as Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, Trooping the Colour, the State Opening of Parliament.
I hope one day I’ll be able to go there to see it with my own eyes.
2)Would you like to take part in a British holiday celebration? Why?
Every country has its customs and traditions. I like to learn something new about other countries. I would like to take part in a British holiday “Halloween”. To my mind it’s funny to dress up in costumes and go from door to door where you knock on the door and yell “Trick or treat!” And it’s more pleasant to eat all the sweets you were given.
3)What questions can you ask a teenager about good manners in their country?
How often do you say «Please» and «Thank you»?
Do you open doors for other people?
Should I hug or shake hands when I say hello?
4)What national souvenirs will you recommend a belarusian tourist to buy?
Each country has its souvenirs for foreigners which reflect its beauty, history, wild life and the main crafts. I would advise them to buy elements of the national British clothes, the paintings with famous landmark, British toys, linen and ceramic products.
5)Nowadays more and more people are getting interested in customs and traditions of different countries. What do you think about it?
So many countries so many customs, an English proverb says. By comparing the customs and cultures of people from other countries, we can learn how others view the world and why they think the way they do. By understanding others, we can not only form deeper friendships with others but can also learn more about ourselves and our own culture.

Most of all I like Halloween.  It is the most terrible and mysterious holiday. Crowds of people dressed as witches, ghosts and monsters walk around the city. People from all over the world want to experience for themselves this British festival to feel all the atmosphere of the day.

In fact, this holiday has a Celtic origin. In the end of the year, there is the most famous New Year celebration. In London, many people go to Trafalgar Square on New Year's Eve. There is singing and dancing at 12 o'clock on December 31st. A popular Scottish event is the Edinburgh Festival of music and drama, which takes place every year.
